General Information
Care Instructions for All Yarns
We recommend storing yarns and finished garments away from direct sunlight, and occasional gentle washing by hand in cool water with a mild liquid such as Soak or Eucalan and dried flat, stretched/pinned to shape. Some dye may bleed during the first wash or two - this is normal. Knitted lace will usually require blocking each time the item is washed.
Our yarns are washed and rinsed thoroughly after dyeing, and we use a very small quantity of a good quality fabric conditioner in the final rinse. The perfume will usually disappear if you hang the skein loosely in an airy room (such as a bathroom) for a few days, or when the finished item is first washed. If you would prefer your yarn prepared without conditioner due to allergies or dislike of the scent, we are happy to produce a custom order for you - just mention this on the contact form. This will obviously take a few days to prepare, so please feel free to contact us to find out how quickly we can complete your order.
Colour Accuracy
Every monitor will show colours slightly differently, and while we do our best to reproduce them accurately on our own screens, we can't guarantee that they will look the same on others. We try to describe every colourway as accurately as possible, but the process of hand dyeing and the fibres used do mean that natural variations will occur between different yarn bases and also between skeins of the same dyelot. The same recipe may give a different result depending on the yarn base used, and there may also be differences between weights, eg a 4-ply and laceweight in the same fibre blend may give a slightly different colour. If you are not happy with the colour of any yarn you order online, we will happily replace it or refund the cost of the yarn - please refer to our returns policy.
Skein Weights and Lengths
Skein sizes will vary - each skein is priced according to the approximate weight after dyeing and drying. We mark every skein with the approximate weight and length but please be aware that the tolerances permitted within the spinning industry mean that natural variances will occur in both thickness and length. We cannot therefore guarantee the actual length of any skein.
Please order enough yarn for your project, as it can be difficult to produce a good match if you request more at a later stage.
Custom Orders
If you need more yarn than we show in stock, please ask about a custom order, as we are always happy to dye multiple skeins to a single recipe. Please note however that, due to the nature of hand dyeing, no two skeins will ever be identical, although we try to make them as close in colour as possible. The larger the number of skeins produced, the more likely they are to show some variation between them. The best way to allow for these variations is by alternating a few rows from one skein and then another when adding a new skein, so any difference between them is less noticeable.
