Eilidh (pronounced Ay-lee) is a crescent-shaped shawl incorporating elements of Shetland lace patterns and others which have been inspired by these traditional designs. Worked from the top down on a garter-stitch base, there are options for beading, either allover or for selected sections. Some areas of the design require patterning on both sides, which makes it a little more challenging than many of my designs, but the garter-stitch background makes this much easier than a stocking-stitch ground.  The skill level for this design is intermediate, for those with a reasonable level of experience in knitted lace, particularly for the cobweb and fine lace versions.

There are several options for yarn weights - samples were knitted in:

Cobweb Lace (800m/50g); Fine lace (1,200m/100g); Standard lace (700-800m/100g); Fine 4-ply (475m/100g)

You’ll need a 100g skein of all apart from the Cobweb Lace, where a 50g skein will be sufficient. The size is also adjustable as there are sections of the design that can be repeated - this does require extra yarn (and beads, if using).

I’d suggest choosing a yarn that’s semi-tonal or with subtle colour changes for this design, as garter-stitch may not look so attractive in yarn with bolder variations in colour.

The pattern is both charted and written in full.
