What We Do

Watercolours and Lace produce hand-painted yarns in a variety of lace weights (from cobweb upwards) and a range of 4-ply thicknesses. All are dyed in small batches - often just one 100g skein at a time - using a technique which results in subtle colour variations and gradations, without harsh stripes or pooling.

No two skeins are identical, even within a single batch, so whatever you create with our yarns will be one-of-a-kind.

We only use high quality natural fibre yarns, from British flocks and/or spun in the UK when possible, although a number of yarns are sourced by our suppliers from overseas.

Professional acid dyes are used for our main range and we are constantly experimenting with new colour blends, so the palette available changes regularly. We also offer a more limited colour range using natural botanical (plant-based) dyes.

We also offer kits for our own knit and crochet designs for accessories and garments.  Each includes a hard copy of the pattern and sufficient yarn to work the design as written.

You can find details of our yarns and what customers have made using them on Ravelry here, and examples of items made with our designs here.

Colours are reproduced as closely as possible but may look a little different on your monitor. If you are not happy with the colour we will be happy to replace it or refund the cost of the yarn.

Please note:  Everything we sell (with the exception of hardware such as needles and beads) is produced by hand in our own studio in Norfolk, England. We do not buy in finished items, nor do we employ outworkers.
