Eilidh Shawl Kit - Yak Merino Lace
Eilidh Shawl Kit - Yak Merino Lace
Eilidh (pronounced Ay-lee) is a crescent-shaped shawl incorporating elements of Shetland lace patterns and others which have been inspired by these traditional designs. Worked from the top down on a garter-stitch base, there are options for beading, either all-over or for selected sections. Some areas of the design require patterning on both sides, which makes it a little more challenging than many of my designs, but the garter-stitch background makes this much easier than a stocking-stitch ground. The skill level for this design is Intermediate, for those with a reasonable level of experience in knitted lace.
The finished measurements after blocking are 210cm (82 inches) wide by 60cm (24 inches) deep, and the original was worked on a 3.75mm circular needle.
The kit includes the printed pattern and a 100g (700m) skein of our hand-painted 60% Geelong (Merino) Lambswool, 40% Yak Lace yarn, sufficient to make the Laceweight version of the shawl as written.
Beads are NOT included in the kit - we recommend size 6 Japanese seed beads. This version of the design would require up to 1,476 beads if fully beaded.
The pattern is presented both in chart form and as fully written instructions, and also includes instructions for three other versions of the shawl in different yarn weights.
