Highland Heather Shawl Pattern
Highland Heather Shawl Pattern
A pretty crescent-shaped shawl, suitable for knitters with a little experience of lace, the pattern includes four versions in two sizes. The larger sizes take 100g of laceweight or 200g of 4-ply yarn. The smaller versions can be worked with as little as 50g of laceweight yarn or 100g of 4-ply. The skill level for this design is classified as Intermediate, for those with some experience in knitted lace.
The main body is worked in variations on a diamond pattern, with an edging that can be blocked into neat points. The size can be increased if required (more yarn will be needed). Pattern includes instructions for optional picot edging.
My sample shawls were worked in the following yarns:
Large Laceweight with picot bind-off, Blue Faced Leicester Lace, 1 x 100g/800m skein using 3.5mm circular needle. Finished size after blocking 200cm wide by 60cm deep.
Small Laceweight with plain bind-off, Camelhair Lace, 1 x 50g/375m skein using 3.5mm circular needle. Finished size after blocking 140cm wide by 40cm deep.
Large 4-ply with picot bind-off, Teeswater/Wensleydale Wool 4-ply, 2 x 100g/300m skeins using 5.00mm circular needle. Finished size after blocking 170cm wide by 55cm deep.
Small 4-ply with plain bind-off, Blue Faced Leicester 4-ply, 1 x 100g/400m skein using 4.00mm circular needle. Finished size after blocking 150cm wide by 45cm deep.
The pattern is presented in both chart and full written form.
